How to Clean a Gym Floor Properly

      • Dust mop first: Remove loose dust, dirt, and grit with a dry dust mop before damp cleaning.
      • Prepare your cleaner: Follow the product’s dilution instructions. For HALF-TIME, mix 1 quart of cleaner with 2 gallons of water (8:1). For TAC-TITE, use 2 oz. per gallon with a Speed Mop, 6 ft CourtClean, or auto-scrubber, or 4 oz. per gallon with an 8 ft CourtClean.
      • Damp mop, don’t flood: Use a damp microfiber pad or towel, wring out excess solution, and clean in overlapping passes. Never leave standing water on a wood gym floor.
      • Change towels and solution: Replace dirty towels or pads as needed, and prepare fresh cleaning solution when it becomes soiled.
      • Allow the floor to dry: Let the surface dry completely before reopening the court for play.

Gym Floor Cleaners - Frequently Asked Questions

For finished wood basketball courts, choose a cleaner designed for sports floor finishes. HALF-TIME contains isopropyl alcohol for faster drying between games and practices. TAC-TITE is a pH-neutral cleaner suited for routine maintenance. Both are designed to remove perspiration, body oils, and everyday dirt without leaving a dulling film.

TAC-TITE is formulated for wood, synthetic, and rubber sports floors and can be used in compatible auto-scrubbers according to the manufacturer’s instructions. HALF-TIME is intended for wood sports floors. For heavy buildup on synthetic surfaces, consider Citra-Blaze 535 Citrus Sport Floor Degreaser when approved for the flooring material.

HALF-TIME and TAC-TITE are no-rinse gym floor cleaners when properly diluted and used as directed. Damp mop the floor, remove excess moisture, and allow it to dry before play resumes. Avoid soaking wood floors or leaving standing water, which can damage the flooring system.

Use a cleaner designed to remove ice melt residue, such as Trax-Buster Ice Melt Film Remover. It helps remove the white film tracked indoors during winter. Address buildup promptly and follow the manufacturer’s directions to protect the floor finish.
