MAPEI Ultrabond Sport PU 1K bonds reground (recycled) rubber sports flooring and rubber underlayments in interior and exterior, commercial and residential installations. MAPEI rates it for all exercise equipment areas, so it is a common choice for weight rooms and fitness centers where rubber rolls or tiles are glued down.

MAPEI formulates Ultrabond Sport PU 1K with early tack and green strength to keep seams tight and avoid the need for weights, though MAPEI notes weights are sometimes needed at seams until the adhesive sets. Plan on a flash time of 0 to 10 minutes, a working time of 20 to 30 minutes, and 30 to 45 minutes to adjust a piece after it is placed.

Coverage depends on the trowel. With a 1/16 in square-notch trowel, MAPEI lists 90 to 120 square feet per gallon, or roughly 360 to 480 square feet per 4-gallon pail. With a 1/8 in U-notch trowel, it is 50 to 60 square feet per gallon, or about 200 to 240 square feet per pail. Use the trowel your flooring manufacturer specifies and order extra for waste and uneven substrates.

It is a one-part adhesive. Ultrabond Sport PU 1K cures by reacting with moisture, so there is nothing to mix. It is a smooth, dark gray paste with 100% solids and VOC content under 40 g/L, which is why MAPEI lists it as low VOC.

Store pails at 65 to 80 degrees F (18 to 27 degrees C) and protect them from freezing. Shelf life is 1 year in the original unopened metal pail. Because it cures with moisture, keep each pail sealed until you are ready to spread it.
